Definition of the Doctorate

The doctorate is based on an original and formative research project, which enables the candidate to become an international expert in their scientific field.
The doctorate is a professional research experience, leading to the award of a BAC+8 level degree (equivalent to a PhD), which is internationally recognized.
Typically, the doctorate is completed over 3 years (6 years maximum if pursued part-time), during which the doctoral candidate conducts research on a specific subject.
The doctoral candidate carries out their research under the supervision of a thesis director, who holds the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR).
The program concludes with the thesis defense, which allows the candidate to earn the title of doctor.
