3rd Edition of the Climate and Biodiversity Trophies: A Springboard for Ocean Research

The Maud Fontenoy Foundation and the FORVIA Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of the 3rd Edition of the Climate and Biodiversity Trophies, an initiative designed to support and promote doctoral research focused on developing innovative solutions for the Ocean—an essential element in regulating the climate of our planet.

A Springboard for Doctoral Students

This competition offers a unique opportunity for doctoral students to showcase their work on an international scale and highlight their research in a field with a bright future: the Ocean. By participating, doctoral students will have the chance to:

  • Present their projects to a panel of recognized experts in the fields of the Ocean, climate, and biodiversity.

  • Benefit from a total award of €50,000, which will be distributed among the winners. This financial support can be used for research equipment, field experiments, international mobility, or even to fund an entrepreneurial project.

  • Gain visibility and open doors to new professional opportunities.

The Climate and Biodiversity Trophies are designed as a springboard for doctoral students' careers and as recognition of the excellence of their work, particularly in a field as crucial for the future of our planet as the Ocean.

An Original Opportunity for Marine Research

The two organizing foundations, the Maud Fontenoy Foundation and the FORVIA Foundation, wish to highlight research projects and innovations that offer concrete solutions for Ocean conservation or the development of environmentally-friendly industrial and technological solutions inspired by marine biodiversity.

The 2025/2026 edition will focus on the following theme:

"An Ocean of Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity: Research in Service of Oceanic and Coastal Ecosystems."

This theme is set within the global context of urgent climate and environmental challenges, where the Ocean plays a central role in regulating the climate and preserving biodiversity.

An International Competition

The Climate and Biodiversity Trophies are open to all doctoral students, whether enrolled in French doctoral schools or in foreign institutions participating in European or international doctoral programs. This allows for the recognition of projects on a global scale and encourages a collaborative approach to research on oceanic and climate issues.

Calendar and Registration

Applications for the 3rd edition of the Trophies are open until Sunday, December 31, 2025. The submission process takes between 10 and 15 minutes and can be done directly via the online form available here.
